720p HD LCD TV

Good Picture for the money

First off the item arrived in record time from the vendor. The picture compared to my Sony trinitron is more vibrant. I watched a Pay Per Movie from my cable provider and the picture was comparable to seeing it in the theater.

I havent even used the HDMI cable yet. Now the quality does fade when you move to close or view from an angle. But Im sure that happens with other 780 dpi models

A minor flaw is that the jacks are not flat against the back of the TV. The back has a lip and the jacks are on the bottom which makes it difficult to view when you want to plug your jacks in.

The TV many many other features similar to a cable box for fav channels and so forth which I havent used.

Im very pleased with the purchase. I did see an RCA 37" for the same price about a week after purchasing this one and wondered about that deal.

A good TV

I got it just before Xmas at best buy for $449.

Now, 8 months later, of course, you can get either a bigger screen or whatever for the same price.

Im fairly pleased. Takes awhile to get used to the "slow" turning on and changing of chanels.

What got me interested in Toshiba was i went in walmart and of all their TVs this toshiba had the best picture.

Now, 8 months later, I might opt for a 37 or 42 inch because prices have come down some.

Being the tightwad i am, I will use his for at least 4 more years before upgrading. (Assuming no problems)

Fantastic TV

The picture is even better than I expected, and it is slim and light and was easy to mount to the wall in the bedroom, now we are not straining our necks to see the tv! Feels like your at the movies in your own room! Love it!

We LOVE this TOSHIBA TV.

I have had this since 3/08/09 & we watch it alot. It is on about 12 hours a day. (we work from home & we keep it on all the time, whether we are watching it or not) It is GREAT..we have no complaints. The picture quality & color is A+++. The sound is fine. It does take a few seconds for the picture to come on while changing channels, but so what, whats 2 or 3 seconds. It's great in regular LCD digital channels, but when I switch it to HDTV..OMG..the picture is superb. One feature we love is when you MUTE it..it "half mutes" on the first click, meaning it goes alot lower in volume yet not totally muted, Than when I click again, it's totally muted. I recommend this Toshiba 32" TV to everyone who wants a great TV at a great price. We also have 2 more TV's..a superb SCEPTRE & a superb Sharp 32" LCD HDTV, yet the Toshiba has us hooked. It is a bit better than our Sceptre & Sharp. I will buy another one soon.

Not HD Ready, Poor Volume

I bought this TV for my camper. When the AC is on you can not here the TV!!! I will have to buy a converter box because it is not HD ready and therefore will not pick up local stations without cable service. We stay a some campsites that do not have cable service so we would be out of luck, I am hopeing that a converter box will fix that problem. As far as the sound goes we are looking into installing surround sound reciever so that we can here the TV when the AC is on. I cannot believe that Toshiba can make a HD TV with 1080p and it not have a built in tuner to pick up loal stations withou cable service. Not such a bargain after all !!!!

Very Happy

Pros:
-Great picture
-Great viewing angle (practically 180)
-True Wide screen (no more stupid bars!)
-Clear QAM channels work great (nix your set-top box!)
-Lots of input options
-Toshiba Customer service reputation
-Good documentation
-Light weight (30 pounds)
-Decent sound (you will still want good speakers though)
-Very Nice looking
-Good for Internet TV & HTPC use
-Remote glows in the dark
-Allows 1920x1080 computer resolution if you want with HDMI cable
-Screen is virtually glare-free
-Nice Picture setting presets & customizable too.
-Nice buttons on remote for PC use ("PIC Size" button is key for 16:9!)
-Can hook multiple PC's to it and flip monitor inputs instantly (no kvm switch needed! 5 PC's could be connected.)
-Same computer can be input multiple times for different desktops (haven't tried this yet though.)

Cons:
-Doesn't automatically turn off with PC (keep remote near by)
-No difference in 720p & 1080p (see below)
-PC Text looks better in 1360x768 (768p) than in 1920x1080 (1080p)
-Too big for some low quality Internet Video
-Shows finger prints
-Connecting PC with S-video was almost unusable. Looks terrible.
-Half inch border all the way around in default 1080p or 765p mode. Use 768p with a PC if you can.
-Remote buttons are a little stiff and small. Hard to navigate if you have long nails.
-Only 1 custom preset available for picture settings.
-No DVI connection

Generally I think this is a fantastic TV and monitor. I use it as my primary HTPC monitor with Windows 7 media center and a simple indoor TV antennae. I really enjoyed recording the Olympics in HD and playing back stop-motion ice skating. My roommate has the same TV and is using Comcast clear QAM with no set-top box and no computer. He gets all the digital tv channels.

I surf the Internet and watch a lot of Internet TV and it works great for this too. (Hint: turn down the backlight level for better text reading with less eye strain. Use the "Sports" mode for Internet TV which tends to be very dark.)

All the various inputs allow many advantages over a regular monitor (see pros above.) I can read text clearly from up to 15 feet away. (Great for lounging in bed or on the couch.) The only disadvantage of using the HDTV this way is the limited variety of resolutions.

I saw no difference in quality with HDMI or VGA cable as some other people said. I am not sure what the story is with the S-video PC input. It looked really terrible when I hooked up my laptop. However it looks great with a VGA cable. I will report back if other devices such as DVD players have this problem.

Watching Internet video is good but sometimes not great on a 32 inch. You really wouldn't want a screen any bigger than this because Websites save space by converting the videos to very low quality. I have opened some Youtube videos that I actually could not see. My 14" laptop handled them better.

As you can see from the list above my Cons are no biggy: I find I need to switch the picture modes a lot when going from Recorded TV to text reading to Internet TV, so I wish there were more customized presets allowed in order to tweak them.

The only big thing I regret is that some reviews told me I might need 1080p if I were using this TV as a monitor. It actually looks worse in 1920x1080 and the the text is harder to read (even zoomed.) In TV mode you will not see a difference with 1080p unless you use a Blue Ray DVD player and sit 2 or 3 feet away on a 32" screen. I could have saved $100 by getting a 720p Samsung. However I am still very happy with this and feel I got a top of the line product for a steal.

I hope I've provided some good information that is hard to find for people looking for large monitors.

*Note: to get Clear QAM channels in Windows Media Center without a cable card or set-top box you need a TV card known to receive them. For example: Avertv MTVHDDUWB HD Duet (White Box) & Here: Hauppauge 1229 WinTV-HVR-2250 White Box for System Builders Dual Hybrid PCI-E TV Tuner Board

Customer Review :

Think twice before buying this TV!

I purchased this TV in January, 2009. The picture is fantastic, but that is one of the few things that I can say that are positive. We have had issues with the TV's remote control, the TV makes a high-pitched squeal sometimes when getting a signal from different inputs, and it also "fades to black" spontaneously.
I have contacted Toshiba customer service over 15 times since last year and have had a service tech out to the house twice. None of the issues have ever been resolved.
In regards to the remote issues, the reps have offered up the possible causes: "do you have fluorescent lights in your house?" and my favorite, "do you have windows in that room?"
When I reported the "fade to black" issue, one of the reps told me that "your antenna may be losing signal." Now I am not a TV expert, but I think after having an antenna for many years, I know what it looks like when the signal is weak.
The second time their service tech came to my house, he literally never touched the TV and told me everything was ok.
The last time I called, the rep told me "we will get back to you with a resolution in two or three days." That was over seven weeks ago.
So if you want horrible customer service if your TV ever has a problem, by all means, this Toshiba TV is the TV for you!

Great TV for it's day

Bought this TV last January for a steal ($700 then). It's a quality set and outperformed most sets of similar pricing. The blacks are great, the picture is crisp, and there's a lot of video adjustment options for calibration. My only complaint is that the built-in speakers are weak sauce (although this is consistent for many flat screens). Also, input switching is not always as responsive as I'd like it to be. Off-angle viewing preserves colors better than other sets, but blacks gray out a bit.

However, nowadays you can buy a better set with higher contrast ratio (this set is said to be ~10,000:1) for similar price from Sony or Samsung on sale.

Great picture, poor reception, weird spiritual possession

We've had this TV for a little over a year. Picture is outstanding - too good for my old video game consoles but the Blu-Ray looks awesome. Sound is only okay ... a set like this really deserves a good amp and 5.1 speakers.

Setup is easy, although the built-in tuner is really weak. This is a set designed with cable or satellite in mind - and we tend to lose reception every time a car drives by because we do not have cable. The stink of it is that if we got cable, we'd only be able to get 480i or at best 720p on most stations, including local, because of the local cable companies. Even with an antenna (an RCA flat) reception is not much better.

The tuner also has a tendency to freeze - or something like it where the channel will just stick and nothing responds. Just faces frozen in time on our screen. Turning it off and on has worked - so far.

The other gripe is more recent and perplexing. Our TV has a tendency to randomly change channels. It's not the remote (we can take the batteries out and it still happens) and it doesn't seem to be a stuck button on the console itself (we'll hit the opposite button to no effect). It just fundamentally dislikes what's on and decides that something must be done about it. Our only solution is to turn it off and wait a while to see if it stops. Today has been worse than most, though we've been able to catch most of what we usually watch.

Perfect even a year later!

I had NO PROBLEMS at all...quick delivery, perfect packaging, easy to set up, great picture. I would say it could use additional speaker system, but I have owned this for almost one year now, and love my TV!! Worth the price I paid, and would recommend Toshiba all the way.

Rating :

Only worked for 3 days

The only reason I give this any stars at all is because I liked everything about this Toshiba, until it decided to just turn off and stop working. I have no clue what happened and neither does the tech so it must just be a lemon. But to me that's enough of a failure not to buy a Toshiba product again. I might understand if it didn't work out of the box. But for it to work for a few days and then just stop is unacceptable for what is supposed to be a quality brand.

In the Menu, there must be an option for "Channels" Channel Scan, or something similar. Similar force a new Channel scan. When it asks you Antenna or Cable, select Cable.

Question : I bought a new toshiba regza LCD TV and it has a low humming that is always present.?
You can really only hear it if the TV is muted or at low volumes. Is a slight humming or buzzing from the speakers normal for LCD's?

Answer:
Hi,Are you sure its really coming off the speakers, not the TV itself? Here's something you can try, turn the internal speakers off by going into your sound menu. Do you still hear the sound? There should be absolute silence from the speakers since the speakers are now cut off from the internal amplifier. If you still hear the sound from the speakers, there's there is something wrong with the internal circuits of the amplifier. So since its not too late for you to replace with another model or perhaps get it exchanged if you like the same tv, then please do so.Oh, did you know you can connect sound without going through your tv to your sound system or stereo if you got audio in on your sound system.I never use the tv's speakers at my place, well its up to you.Good luck!

yout tv is only capable of hd....if your connecting it to a wall, that means you are using coax. Not best signal possible.@nd, only things shot with HD camera are gonna be HD. Did any salesperson consult with you when you bought your tv?????

Question : how do you change resoloution on a toshiba 37av502u lcd tv?
don't have a manual so need step by step Thanks in advance! It says 480i at the top of the screen i know it has to at least go up to 720i

Answer:
If you mean the display resolution, it's made that way, you can't change it. To change it, you would have to get a better TV set.If you mean the resolution of the video, that's determined by the video itself. You can't change it.

Question : What are the best settings for my new Toshiba LCD TV?
I just bought my Toshiba 32AV502U and tried to play my Xbox 360 on it. My only problem is the that there is a bit of a "delay" (lag) between my button presses. I have turned on "Game Mode" or whatever it is, but there still is that little bit of lag that is really noticeable. Any ideas on what I could do to fix it? Should I just go return this TV and get a different kind? Thanks in advance.

Answer:
Hmm....Delays occur due to excessive VIDEO PROCESSING or Upconversion/Downconversions....I would start with making sure the XBox's video output is set to the TV's NATIVE RESOLUTION....If the TV has a Native resolution of 720 (the display panel's actual resolution) then you want the Xbox to output a 720 signal...Then if you have the ability to use HDMI, use it....Now....you're not ONLINE gaming are you? If so, the XBox is just way too busy making an HD picture AND accessing the Online game at the same time...If so, you may be forced to reduce the Video ouput resolution on your XBox even further because it's spending too much time building a picture for your TV set....And that would suck....after all you bought the TV and the XBox for HD Gaming !TVs really do not cause game lag as much as the Xbox does...they can cause MINOR lag if you are outputting a 1080 signal to a 720 TV...the TV would then have to DOWNSCALE the video to fit the TV screen, and that takes a little time...

Question : I have a Toshiba 37" LCD TV and the picture is very dark for 2-3 mn when first turned on. Is this normal?
Toshiba 37" LCD TV #37HL67. Circuit City wants me to bring it in--I would have to get help--not easy.

Also we've had it for 20 days now and the color went on the TV a few days go...no more blue...all we see is everything very red/brown and green. Also noticed that the non-HD channels and any channel where there's writing on it, the wrting is fuzzy...e.g. when you turn on the Guide function. Maybe we got a lemon...will try to exchange it and see what happens."

Answer:
While it is good to read customer reviews, you have to take them with a grain of salt. People who have bad experiences with their products are more likely to make postings. So if 1,000 units are sold any only 2 had issues, you'll hear about those 2. But does that make it necessarily a bad product? It could, but you don't know for sure is really the issue. The Toshiba sounds like the better option in that deal though. It has 1 extra HDMI and 1 extra component. So without any extra devices, you can hookup 5 HD sources directly to the Toshiba TV. You can only hook-up 3 to the Samsung. Or you can hook up 3 HDMI to the Toshiba and then have 2 component left for a high quality SD connection for things like an older DVD player, a Wii, etc. But generally, I like the extra inputs the Toshiba offers. Also, it has both Digital Optical Audio and Stereo Audio outputs, whereas Samsung only has the Digital Optical. Stereo Audio output is the Red/White leads. So that can be handy going to older speakers or amps. Its not as good as Digital Optical, but depending on what kind of gear you own, it could be a valuable output. Or as neither TV has a headphone jack, the Stereo audio output is much easier to turn into one (you just get a Y cable for a few bucks). Digital Audio to headphone requires a much more expensive converter box.Frankly, at that price point, the TV I'd be more interested in comparing the Toshiba to would be the LG 42LH30. My main annoyance with that one is the lack of audio outputs on the TV. But if you don't need that (because you're feeding devices directly into an amp or not using an home theatre system), then it might not be an issue. LG rates well in many consumer reviews. At that point, I might actually go to the store and look at the TVs rather than just go from their specs. See which one your eyes like better (just remember to stand back at a natural viewing distance).

Question : Trying to get digital on an LCD Toshiba TV - lousy and keeps freeze framing?
Please tell me EXACTLY what I need to get digital TV without it freezing up. I need to know what to ask for when I go into a store before they end up selling me a bunch of stuff that makes no difference in the reception. I am still going to Analog channels to watch TV, but won't have that option soon! So far this new TV has been a waste of money and very frustrtating! Thanks

Answer:
You need a better antenna. The antenna you need depends on how strong the signals are at your house.Visit http://www.antennaweb.org . Based on your zip code, the site will suggest the proper antenna for your situation using a standard color code. Take that color code to some place that sells antennas.Personally, I would stay away from amplified antennas. In some cases they can actually prevent you from receiving channels. It's best to get an antenna good enough you don't need the amplifier.
